Yes, the FBI is America’s secret police

FBI, America's secret policePolitifact delivered a “pants on fire” slam to Fox News on Friday because one of its commentators asserted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation “has become America’s secret police.” The FBI has legions of new champions nowadays among liberals and Democrats who hope that its probes will end Donald Trump’s presidency. This is a stunning reversal that may have J. Edgar Hoover spinning in his grave.

In order to boost the credibility of the FBI’s investigations of the Trump team, much of the media is whitewashing the bureau’s entire history. But the FBI has been out of control almost since its birth.

The so-called fact checkers insists that any comparison of the FBI and KGB is “ridiculous” because the FBI is “subject to the rule of law and is democratically accountable.” But there is little or no accountability when few members of Congress have the courage to openly criticize or vigorously cross-examine FBI officials. House Majority Leader Hale Boggs admitted in 1971 that Congress was afraid of the FBI: “Our very fear of speaking out (against the FBI) … has watered the roots and hastened the growth of a vine of tyranny … which is ensnaring that Constitution and Bill of Rights which we are each sworn to uphold.” More…

Plaintiffs Shred FEC’s Defense of Debate Commission

Commission on Presidential Debates excludes 3rd partiesLevel the Playing Field filed new documents in their case against the “nonpartisan” Commission on Presidential Debates. Among them is a brief that includes a blistering response to the FEC’s argument that the CPD — as an organization — doesn’t have a conflict of interest, even though the majority of its board is made up of high-powered Democratic and Republican insiders.

Plaintiffs in Level the Playing Field, et. al. v. FEC say the federal commission has ignored a “mountain of evidence” against the CPD, has misled the court in its defense of the debate commission, and has allowed the CPD to exercise “unchecked power to decide who may participate in the presidential debates.”

“[The CPD] has abused that power by erecting insurmountable obstacles that ensure only Republican and Democratic candidates will be invited,” plaintiffs write in their latest memorandum. More…

Asset Seizures
Interview with Doug Casey
Posted January 6, 2018

no conviction requiredI saw the other day the government steals more from the American people through confiscations than is lost outright to robberies and muggings. It’s been reported that in 2015 civil forfeitures exceeded the amount stolen by all robbers. It’s quite amazing and disturbing. There are at least two reasons things are deteriorating.

Number one, as a general rule, police are no longer trained as “peace officers.” They’re trained to be, and view themselves, as “law enforcement officers.” This is a very different thing. The police are a bigger threat to your property and your liberty, not to mention your life, than actual criminals. Number two, these governments are all bankrupt. They’re looking for revenue wherever they can get it. Predators are most dangerous when they’re hungry.

The police are the ones that actually make it happen, and they have a vested interest in doing the wrong thing. Whenever a police department confiscates things under these laws, they get to keep some percentage. So, they’re profiting from this stuff as directly as the criminals do that steal things from citizens. It’s a total disaster. More…

A New Stealth Attack in EU’s “War on Cash”

A New Stealth Attack in EU’s “War on Cash”
by Don Quijones

war on cash state sanctioned theftThe EU’s Orwellian-dubbed Civil Liberties and Economic Affairs committee has approved tough new rules on cash that travelers might bring into or take out of the bloc. It’s also broadened the definition of cash to include precious stones and metals and prepaid credit cards.

For the moment the new definition does not include Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, for one simple reason: “customs authorities lack the resources to monitor them.”

Most importantly, the draft law will enable authorities to impound “cash” below the traditional €10,000 threshold, if criminal activity is suspected. The new rules would repeal the First Cash Control Regulation (CCR) from 2005, which requires individuals to declare sums over €10,000 when leaving or entering the EU. More…

How Corporate Giants Are Using Private Security Firms to Spy on Protesters
by Meirion Jones and Rob Evans

corporations are infiltrating movementCorporate giants are hiring private security firms to spy on and infiltrate political groups that they deem a risk to their profit motive. The targets of the monitoring spanned the grieving family of a young protester crushed to death by a bulldozer to a range of environmental campaigns, including even phone mast protesters.

The leaked documents suggest that the use of secretive corporate security firms to gather intelligence about political campaigners has been widespread. The cache of emails we obtained shows how one of the “private spy” firms, C2i International, used two infiltrators to acquire advance warning of demonstrations that were being mounted against big companies. They then fed this information back to the companies.

The infiltrators pretended to be activists sympathetic to the cause of the campaigners. They helped to run the campaigns and attended their demonstrations, including on one occasion, dressing up as a pirate with a cutlass and eyepatch as part of a protest. More…

Consider this: If corporations are already hiring private firms to infiltrate their perceived enemies, how big a step will it be before corporations start hiring private companies such as Blackwater, Xi or Academi to start eliminating their perceived enemies?

trees are poetry of life

Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky. We fell them down and turn them into paper that we may record our emptiness.
